- Knowledge Transfer Partnership - Point-of-Care sensor to improve drug delivery.(Ref: KTP06322) – United Kingdom
I actively lead a project aimed at fostering technology transfer between a Cranfield University (Silsoe, UK) and Sphere Medical Ltd. (Cambridge, UK). I acted as co-supervisor of a PhD student, guiding technological progresses as well as the implementation of the new technology being developed to the need of the company.
- Collaboration for the establishment of a spin-off company - Spain
The Nanobiotechnology and Bioanalysis Group at the URV recently submitted a patent application to protect a new extraction system for food allergen analysis. Based on the patent, we initiated the creation of a spin-off company, currently negotiating the shares and participation scheme, liaising with the University, and the regional and governmental association to secure further sources of funding. A third party has already expressed interest in the technology and currently discussing investments.
- Collaboration for the development of polymeric sorbent for marine toxin removal and analysis – URV/IRTA - Spain
Technology developed by the researcher is being tested for routine toxin analysis of sea foods in the Delta del Ebro. The Institut de Recerca i Tecnologia Agroalimentàries (IRTA), based in San Carles de la Rapita (Spain). Amongst many missions, the IRTA is responsible for the monitoring the quality of shellfish waters and the control of molluscs along the coast of Catalonia. As such IRTA is empowered by the Government of Catalunya (Gencat) to decide on the action to be taken if high levels of contaminants are found present in the cultures (e.g. suspension of commercialization).
The new sorbent prepared by the researcher and provided to IRTA show high affinity towards a range of relevant toxins and have been found to considerably simplify the sample preparation steps required before performing the analysis.
On-going studies are evaluating the stability of the polymers, the possibility to prepare arrays to speed the time of analysis. Further developments are being considered as to start implementing this new technology in the routine operation of the analytical decision chain.
- Quality Management – ATIC Innovation Center - Spain
I am part of the quality committee of ATIC (Advanced Technology and Innovation Center; http://www.atic-innovacio.com/) as Laboratory Safety Responsible. This responsibility encloses the tasks of staff safety training, risk prevention, waste management in 4 research laboratories counting approximately 50 research and administrative staff. The group has received ISO9001 accreditation as well as ISO13485 for the design and manufacture of medical devices. Sitting at the quality board meeting, I actively support the strategic planning of the center discussing and setting new quality objectives to enhance the visibility of the research undertaken.
I am also a certified Internal Auditor by the organisation Mediqol Ltd. (2005) for the assessment of internal compliance to ISO9001:2000 and ISO13485:2003 norms.
